Day 12 – Buddha Blue   Leave a comment

I visited the Ice on Whyte festival today. As I mentioned yesterday, it is a small ice sculpting festival with a Chinese theme. There are several ice and snow sculptures and even some ice slides for the kiddies.

With the flat light today I found it tricky to make a good photo of the ice sculptures. I think if I go at night when they are lit up I could produce some better images. Given the lighting available, the snow sculptures were better subjects.

I shot this Buddha sculpture (at least I think it’s Buddha) from a number of angles and particularly liked the head-on close crop.

Technical details: ISO 200, F14, 1/125s, 60mm
Photoshop mods: Shadow/Highlight tool to bring out the texture in the snow, duplicated the background layer and blended with multiply to add contrast to the snow, shifted to blue from B&W with channel mixer, spot healing to clean up debris on my sensor
